01 The story, in three paragraphs

Why everyone keeps coming back.

Nestled conveniently at 116A Sutton Pl in the heart of Taos Ski Valley, Black Diamond Espresso stands as a beloved local café that perfectly blends rich, expertly crafted coffee with warm, welcoming service. This charming espresso bar is ideally positioned near Lift 1, making it the quintessential stop for skiers and visitors alike seeking an energizing boost before hitting the slopes.

What sets Black Diamond Espresso apart is more than just its prime location—it’s their dedication to quality and community. Customers consistently praise the café for serving some of the best coffee in the area. From Nick Katsiotis’s simple yet heartfelt praise—“Perfectly located by lift 1. Always going here for an espresso”—to Pim Kang’s enthusiastic recommendation of their mocha with a tantalizing hint of orange zest, the beverages here aren’t just drinks; they’re an experience. The rich aroma of freshly pulled espresso shots mingled with the frothy, delicate textures of traditional macchiatos elevates mornings and ski breaks alike. Not to mention, the Mexicana specialty drink has earned a loyal following for its bold, comforting flavors.

Black Diamond Espresso is also known for its exceptional value and friendly approach. At $2.75 for a robust, double-shot Americano, as noted by Kenny Feng, it’s an affordable indulgence that delivers a powerful kickstart. Where many ski town cafés shock with inflated prices, Black Diamond strikes a balance, offering reasonable pricing without compromising on quality—something Taylor Flowers appreciates deeply. This café also warmly welcomes furry friends, offering dog treats that add a heartwarming touch to every visit.

Service here truly shines. Juan’s recent visit highlights the staff’s genuine friendliness and local expertise, with baristas taking the time to recommend hidden gems like nearby hot springs, enhancing the overall travel experience. Although hours can be a bit unpredictable due to staffing challenges, arriving early ensures you won’t miss out on their delicious brews.

Whether you’re dropping your kids off at ski school, waiting for the lifts to open, or simply craving a comforting cup in a beautiful setting, Black Diamond Espresso beckons with charm, flavor, and a sense of genuine hospitality. For anyone visiting Taos Ski Valley, this café is more than a caffeine stop—it’s a cozy moment of connection amid the exhilarating mountain adventure.

I was in the area for work yesterday and came in to get a late. The barista working there was so nice she recommended some cool hot springs in the area I should go to. Will definitely be back for more coffee whenever I’m in the area. Awesome service! I got a coffee and it was under $6

The perfect stop after you drop your kids off at ski school and before the lifts open. Expect a line during the peak time I just mentioned. My small (8 oz) Americano was made with TWO shots for $2.75, which is just the sort of pick-me-up you need when your kids wake up earlier than you'd like during vacation. My wife was a fan of the specialty drinks, especially the Mexicana.

Beautiful spot for a coffee shop, and compared to coffee shops in other “ski-towns” (where usually a lattee has a huge up-charge), the prices here are median and not shocking. They give dog treats and are very friendly, and make a very nice macchiato (traditional macchiato, not “Starbucks macchiato”) as well!

Best coffee in Taos ski area! Highly recommend their mocha with orange zest. Their hours are not too reliable though with the worker shortage. So show up early for coffee!

What a wonderful surprise after running my bike up from Taos! The breakfast burrito was yummy. I asked for an Arnold Palmer and the barista made it no problem even though it wasn’t on the menu.

Great little Pagoda type Coffee shop. Super friendly barista. The coffee and espresso menu was dot on for a late November weather with temps in single digits. The Mexicana Mocha was awesome.
